You are Standing Inside a White House

So when I first saw this the other day, I asked a couple of my coworkers if they had ever played Zork. “Zork? Huh? What?” was the reply and I felt old. Anyway, this is really funny, but probably only if you wasted a small part of your life thinking about grue repellent. Towards that end, go ahead and download yourself a little Zork.

It is an amazing post. The political and historical observations are dead on, and the almost perfect Zork emulation kills my inner dork. Some of the comments on that post deserve high praise as well.
For me, it’s a thrill to see so many Zork geeks jump in on Defective Yeti’s comments. It’s one of those “I’m not alone” moments that the fucking boomers never quit moaning about.

Okay, I nearly went into convulsions when I saw the TRS-80 Model III. I believe that I left ours by the side of the road in Rochester in 1990 because it wouldn’t fit in the car when I was moving out. I miss it terribly. Nothing is more self-gratifying than using a ridiculously outdated computer. I do have many of the original floppy discs (those huge ones) in box somwhere, and I think Zork may actually be in there.

Didn’t we have to load the first Zork from cassette tape?

You’re right about that. It must have been Zork II or III on the floppy.
