Saturday Beer Blogging

Delirium Noel

Continuing with the holiday ale theme, here is Delirium Noel brewed by The Huyghe Brewery in Melle/Ghent, Belgium. Now you have to admit that any beer that features Santa being pulled by a team pink elephants is pretty damn hard to resist. At only $9.50 a bottle and 10% alcohol by volume, this dark and spicy holiday ale is the perfect choice when you are preparing to brace yourself a day of holiday festivities or shopping. In my case, I’m about to be dragged, against my will, to a Christmas Tree lighting in the park. Each sip of Delirium Noel makes the prospect just a little less ghastly.

By the way, if you prefer cat blogging, my cat is in the picture. See if you can find her.

If you can’t see Santa in this picture, I put a different one after the jump where Santa is a little clearer.

Where do you find all these amazing and unique beers? Is there some gourmet beer store downtown I don’t know about? Please clue me in!! (and at these prices, I assume you’re not buying by the case, right?)

The Foodery at 10th and Pine - They claim to have the world’s largest beer selection and I beleive it. I’ve noticed lately that most of the beer stores around town have gotten at least a few exotics but nothing like the Foodery.

If you prefer going to a bar, you should definately check out Monk’s (Belgian but they have everything) on 16th right around Spruce, or Ludwig’s on Sansom (mostly German)Between Broad and 13th. Again, I’ve noticed that even the dive bars here in town have started getting at least one decent Belgian on tap. My own favorite dive, the Locust Bar, has Hoegarden on tap.

I always mean to point out, but never do, that all of those bottles are really pretty big (about the size of a bottle of wine) so they aren’t quite as uneconomical as they seem.
